Halstead and District Photographic Society has been in existence for well over 50 years, the first annual meeting being held in 1958.

It has seen and survived many changes during this time, possibly the largest being the digital revolution in photography which happened around a decade ago.

Around that time the number of club members was in the 20s but since this time it has risen to a little over 40 and has been at this level for a few years now.

It meets at the Methodist Church, in New Street, every other Thursday during the club's season, which runs from the beginning of September to the beginning of May, with meetings starting at 7:30pm.

These meetings are usually internal club competitions or lectures on various aspects of photography.

On top of this, it also meets once a month on a Monday for a more informal competition at the 5 Bells pub, in Colne Engaine, as well as annual summer outings and informal meetings once a month through the summer.

Members are also invited to take part in interclub competitions and host one of these a year where two other clubs are invited to the area.

Entering the competitions is not mandatory, and the clubs take great pride in is it's friendliness and its members do their best to give photographic support to each other.

Visitors are always welcome though there is small fee from non-members attending meetings.
