A popular local bobby is retiring after 36 years working for the police to become a full time writer.
Pete Caulfield, 64, of Sloe Hill, in Halstead, joined Essex Police as a special constable in 1978, before becoming a police officer two years later.
He said: “I joined as a special first as I wanted to see how I enjoyed it."
