A 20-year-old pedestrian died after he was in collision with a car in Colchester.
Police and paramedics were called to the A133 on the outskirts of the town beyond the Greenstead roundabout at about 2.50pm today.
Ambulance crews worked to save the unnamed victim but he died at the scene.
An elderly woman believed to be the driver of the car, was taken to Colchester General Hospital for treatment.
The extent of her injuries are not yet known.
The road is still closed in both directions to allow accident investigators to piece together what happened.
