Getty’s grandfather, John Getty senior, was famously reluctant to pay the ransom.

Bella, who lives in Towers Road, Heybridge, can be seen eating scraps from the floor during a flashback scene in Morocco- which was actually filmed at Yelverton Hall, Norfolk – when Getty III is wandering around a hotel room.

Bella’s owner Liam Stubbings said they had applied for the role for Bella from a Facebook advert but had to keep information about her success to themselves for months after filming.

He said: “The job offer for two blue greyhounds came around on an adopted greyhound Facebook group we’re part of back in the summer of last year.

“Apparently the director Ridley Scott had been wondering around the set for the Morocco scene and come to the conclusion he wanted some greyhounds sniffing around there.

“We got through and went up to Norfolk to film and until now we’ve had to keep quiet about it before the film released.

“It really was wonderful to have Bella featured in something like this.”

Liam said he film success came after an earlier professional failure.

He said: “She was never a great racing dog.

“She only ever ran four races because she just wasn’t interested in chasing things.”

Bella’s lack of interest in racing saw her retired and she went to the rescue home where Liam is a volunteer.

He and his partner, Kelly, fell in love with her and adopted her.

Bella became an ambassador for Clarks Farm which involves her and her owners going around to the rescue centre’s meet ups to show potential adopters what the greyhounds at the centre are like.

Liam added: “Bella is a sweet, friendly and lovely dog to have adopted.

“My partner Kelly and I have been volunteering with the centre for five years now.

“Normally people think greyhounds need a lot of exercise but they are very gentle and only need about two 20 minutes walks a day and they are happy.”

He added: “We’ve had to keep quiet for months, but now we can also say our own dog is a celebrity.”
