SINGERS with learning disabilities captivated an audience with a spectacular concert.
The Castlegate Centre Musicians performed in front of a delighted crowd at the centre, including Colchester’s Mayor Theresa Higgins.
Songs ranged from Let It Go from Disney favourite Frozen, to traditional Irish music and ABBA hits.
The 16 members of the group meet every week to practice their singing and perform at three to four concerts per year at the centre or in venues across Colchester.
Centre manager Breda Spriggs said the performance had been an outstanding success.
She said: “We had a wonderful afternoon and they got a standing ovation from the audience which has never happened before.
“The mayor was so impressed she invited them to perform at an event at the town hall in December.
“Each singer is allowed to choose their own music so we have all sorts of songs ranging from beautiful ones to comedy tunes.
“They work so hard at their singing and have a fantastic ability to make you laugh and make you cry.
“We had lots of laughs and some tears on the afternoon.”
