A LIFE-SAVING volunteer is staging a slo-mo marathon to raise money for vital medical equipment for young people.

Danny Ayling, 20, is a community first responder covering Clacton and Holland-on-Sea.

For the past year he has been helping to save lives by rushing to the aid of patients in need of urgent medical care and giving first aid before ambulance crews arrive.

But with ageing equipment and the need for upgraded kit, Danny has set himself the challenge of walking 26.2 miles – the same distance as a marathon.

He said: “It’s part of the Action Challenge and I’m doing it for the Holland and Clacton Community First Responders.

“I’ve been a first responder for more than a year. We have two kit bags, but we need new equipment to enhance care.”

Danny is also a support worker for people with mental health issues.

He aims to raise at least £300 to fund two new paediatric leads, which monitor the pulse and oxygen levels of young people.

The sponsored event is part of the Capital Marathon Challenge on August 29, an alternative marathon starting from London’s Olympic Park and following the River Lea.

Any extra money Danny raises will be used to buy more kit bags and go towards new defibrillators.

The first responder team is also looking for more volunteers.
