FATHER Christmas will ditch his sleigh again this year as he sails into Clacton on the town’s lifeboat.

Santa is braving the cold seas to deliver presents to youngsters during the free event at the lifeboat station in Martello Bay.

He will arrive in Clacton RNLI’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat at 11am on December 7.

A spokesman said: “Santa has been coming to the town by lifeboat for 20 years.

“It’s always an amazing day with a great atmosphere – more than 100 children usually turn out.

“After he arrives, he will be giving gifts to children and refreshments will be available for grown-ups.

“This event is our chance to say thank you to the people of Clacton, who support us throughout the year.”

Santa arrives at 11am and will remain in his grotto at the boathouse until 1pm.

Every child will receive a small present free of charge.

The lifeboat shop will also be open.

Father Christmas will also be catching a lifeboat lift to Walton and Frinton Yacht Club on Saturday.

The Walton lifeboat crew will drop him off for a day of festive fun on December 6 at 10.30am.

While Santa sets up stall in a special yacht club grotto, the family fun day will feature festive refreshments, children’s entertainment and a Christmas craft market.

Carols will be performed throughout the event by Kirby Community Choir.

Yacht club spokeswoman Beverley Jenkins said: “It is the first time Father Christmas will be landing with us by lifeboat and we want it to be an annual event.

“It is a beautiful setting for a festive event and should be a fantastic day for the whole family.”
