A community club is the 100th group to benefit from a grant scheme.

Black Notley Community Association Table Tennis Club is the latest group to receive funds from the Braintree District Councillors’ Community Grant Scheme.

A total of £1,500 was pooled together by councillors Graham Butland, Tom Cunningham and Frankie Ricci to contribute towards the cost of replacement equipment, including tables for their 45 members who range in ages from six to 82.

The scheme, which launched in August last year, has invested more than £85,000 to help revitalise and support voluntary and community organisations in the district.

Steve Baines, chairman of BNCA Table Tennis Club, said: “The club is very grateful for the generous grant that has enabled us to replace several of our worn tennis tables, nets and other equipment that will benefit our members.

“As one of the largest table tennis clubs in the area, we have members from all walks of life and all age ranges – from young children just starting to learn the game through our coaching sessions, leisure members who just like to play for fun and on to our competitive teams that play in the Braintree and District League.

“We would like to express our thanks to the councillors concerned.”
