A PARENT is scared a child will be run over due to poor parking outside a school.

Lisa Oakman, from Witham, said parents have started parking on the pathways outside Howbridge Junior School when dropping their children off.

She said parking across driveways in Howbridge Road has been an ongoing problem and residents are often verbally abused for asking people to move their cars.

However she said parking on the pathways has only started since children went back to school at the beginning of the month.

Mrs Oakman said cars have also started parking in Laurence Avenue, which is causing a danger.

She said: "This now makes it a nightmare to get out of this junction- it's gridlocked often in the winter when more parents are driving due to the weather.

"Needless to say myself and the other residents of Howbridge Road are not impressed with people parking on the pavement.

"Parents with buggies have to decide whether to go into the road to pass or over the gardens of the houses- I saw mothers with buggies doing both when a red truck was there.

"If it is not resolved I fear a child will be run over, as this almost happened to my son when he was smaller.

"Somebody in a car just reversed and did not see him- luckily I was with him and got him out of the way in time."

Howbridge School said it has raised the issue in the weekly newsletter on a number of occasions and will do so again.

Mrs Oakman said the police have been notified and should be getting the local PCSO to contact her.
