Braintree MP Brooks Newmark has spoken exclusively to the Braintree Times to ask voters to "balance the good I have done" with his social media sexting scandal.
Our online poll found 58% of respondents thought he should have resigned as an MP as well as from his role as a government minister.
One constituent, Jim Hayes, 69, of Windermere Drive, Great Notley, said: “He should go, he shouldn’t even be an MP."
Mr Newmark said: “I hope people will balance the good I have done for the community over the years with a foolish thing I did one evening several months ago.
“Although what the Sunday Mirror did was underhand I blame no one but myself. I hope I can be forgiven for that.”
