Weather experts are warning another tornado could hit the region as more storms are expected.

The Essex Weather Centre warned more storms and heavy rain is forecast with a small risk of another tornado- but that is not expected to strike in the same place.

The advice comes after a tornado hit Halstead and nearby White Ash Green yesterday afternoon.

Duty forecaster Jacqueline Burrell said: “At 4.37 pm one of our forecasters observed cloud rotation, often a sign of a strong thunderstorm and a precursor to a funnel cloud or tornado formation, from Chelmsford.

“The track of this individual storm would have taken it north/north east to where witnesses reported seeing the tornado on the ground 10 minutes later.

“Both computer model and observational data such as rainfall radar supports the development of a short-lived, but fairly strong tornado in the Halstead area on Wednesday evening.”
