HOME-COOKED food and fresh produce will bring people together in Stanway this winter.

Sue Spice, 59, has set up a weekly market in St Andrew’s Hall, London Road.

The market will be held every Friday from 8.30am until 11.30am.

Mrs Spice started the market after she was inspired by a similar event at the Bull Hotel in Halstead.

She said: “I was cooking savoury food for the market in Halstead for about eight months, but it had been running for 26 years.

“Sadly the woman who had been running it died in October and it had to close.

“It was very sad and everyone was so upset because the weekly market had been bringing people together for years.

“Before she died she encouraged me to start one up to get people together in my community.

“The hall is lovely and warm, and there will be all sorts of fresh produce for sale as well as hot meals and drinks.

It is ideal for people, especially older people, to come and socialise this winter.”

As well as cakes, scones, cupcakes and pastries there will be pies, sausage rolls, lasagne, locally produced sausages, vegetables and free range eggs.

There will also be arts and crafts, pottery, cards and plants as well as tea and coffee.

Home cooks and producers of vegetables or plants are invited to join the market.
