SUPERMODEL Caprice Bourret and Colchester mum Gemma Edgar donned their hats for a special event in aid of brain cancer.

Both brain tumour survivors, the charity ambassadors joined Brain Tumour Research for the official launch of this year’s Wear A Hat Day.

With just one per cent of the national spend on cancer research allocated to this devastating disease, each hat worn on March 29 will work towards a cure for those 16,000 people diagnosed in the UK annually.

Former paediatric nurse Gemma, 32, received her shock news at 29 but she continues to fight against it with chemotherapy.

She attended the Wear A Hat Day launch with parents Andy and Barbara Relf.

Robin Meltzer, director of fundraising at the charity, said: “The Wear A Hat Day launch was a special occasion and although we were worried the turnout might be tiny because of the weather and driving conditions, we should have known we could count on the incredible commitment of our loyal supporters.

"We had people come from far and wide, including all the way from Penrith in Cumbria.

“Several of the supporters who came to speak to me told me how much it meant to them to see us at ‘home’. They talked about how Brain Tumour Research was like family to them.

“I hope people will be inspired by Gemma’s story to join in the fun of Wear A Hat Day.”

Alongside Caprice, several celebrities are supporting the initiative including singer John Newman, actress Gillian Anderson and Ricky Hatton.
