FAMILIES have united to celebrate autism.

Autism Anglia organised Neurofantastic, an event held at Firstsite in Colchester.

There was live music, poetry and art from autistic performers and people inspired by autism.

Anna Rogers, head of fundraising at Autism Anglia, said: “It was lovely because families had come a long way to be in an environment which was accepting and inclusive.

“Most of the performers were on the autistic spectrum and we had some really nice comments. People really enjoyed the fact there was something specifically for people on the spectrum.”

The event, which was supported by Colchester Council, included a selection of stalls offering autism information, merchandise and crafts.

There was also a sensory room for those who needed a quiet space.

Anna said: “We definitely want to keep it going now the word is getting out, we are really pleased with how it went.”
