Up to 150 homes could be built in Halstead town centre on sites such as the Senior Citizen’s Centre and Central Park.
By 2026 Halstead must have an extra 300 homes, of which 66 have been built and 166 have planning permission, leaving 68 to be built to meet the requirement of the Local Development Framework core strategy.
But Braintree Council’s LDF sub-committee earmarked the Senior Citizen’s Centre site in New Street, Fenn Road, Sloe Hill and Central Park as sites on which 151 homes could be built.
Braintree Council officers believe the extra homes provide a “comfortable buffer” in case any projects are delayed and to avoid future speculative development in the future.
The plans, which are supported by the town council, include 10 homes which could be built on the Senior Citizens Centre site, 30 in Fenn Road, 20 at the Fenn Road depot, 90 at Central Park and one on Sloe Hill.
