Arsonists have destroyed a children's play area.
Fencing around the children's play area in West Mersea was pulled up and piled on to the skate park in Barfield Road before being set alight.
The skate park was put together about four or five years ago after young people in the town were asked what they wanted to have.
A spokesman for Essex Police said officers were called to the scene at about 10.10pm on Friday. Anyone with information should contact police on 01206 762212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
