Police today warned people to be on their guard after a large amount of lethal cyanide was stolen from a yard in Colchester.

Two 500kg drums of the poisonous and highly toxic liquid, along with copper, were stolen in the raid, which happened at an unnamed engineering company yesterday morning.

Officers are urging people not to touch the containers but to phone police with their whereabouts should they come across them.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the barrels, or the theft, should call Sgt Dave Wheddon at Colchester police station on 01206 762212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
