Trade in Clacton town centre will be killed off if another out-of-town supermarket is built, it has been claimed.
Clacton Shopping Village says the only way to stop the site closing within a year is for a superstore to set up on its nine-acre car park.
Bosses hope Asda will submit plans for the site, which is one mile from Morrisons in Centenary Way and 1.5 miles from Tesco at Brook Retail Park.
But Steve Collitt, who runs Celebrations Store in the town centre and is a member of Clacton Chamber of Trade and Tourism, said another major supermarket would destroy trade in the seaside town.
