STEPS meets Scooby Doo in a new West End show starring a performer from Brantham Gemma Naylor is one of the stars of the Go!Go!Go! Show, which will make its West End debut on June 2 on the stage of The Empire cinema in Leicester Square.

The show has been created by music legend Mike Stock, from Stock, Aitken Waterman, and Steve Crosby, who recruited pop group Steps and wrote their debut single “5, 6, 7, 8”.

A former pupil of Brooklands Primary School, in Brantham, Gemma went to Ipswich High School before winning a scholarship in dance and theatre to study at Bird College in Kent.

She says: “I went along for an audition not expecting anything to happen.

“Then I got the part and found myself in a recording studio with Mike Stock!”

Gemma has spent the last 18 months touring with the show across the country, and performing a regular slot at Alton Towers theme park.

She said: “We visited ten to 15 places and then on our days off, we were at Alton Towers. It’s a young family kind of show, and it’s like a Scooby Doo adventure.

“When it started a few years ago, there weren’t any of those pop groups around, but groups like Steps have returned now.

“People enjoy that kind of music – I’m hoping that will be a positive thing for us.”

Despite living in London and touring around the UK, Gemma makes sure she comes back home to where she grew up as her parents still live in Brantham She said: “It’s such a beautiful part of the country, I did a lot of amateur dramatics in Brantham village.

“Everybody has been very, very supportive.”
