MORE than 70 historic buildings in Wivenhoe have special status after councillors adopted a Local List.
The list was drawn up by local historians and members of the community to give recognition to sites not officially recognised by English Heritage.
Volunteers from the Wivenhoe Townscape Forum surveyed the town and suggested 78 buildings and open spaces which should be given extra consideration when subject of a planning application.
Members of Colchester Council’s local development framework committee adopted a list of 76 sites for the Wivenhoe Local List at a meeting last night.
Two sites on the draft list - the St John’s Ambulance Hall in Chapel Road, and land opposite Millfields School - were not approved as they are currently the subject of planning and village green applications.
Wivenhoe’s Local List includes:
• King George V Playing Fields
• “Tweedledum and Tweedledee” post boxes outside the High Street Post Office
• Wivenhoe Centre, Phillip Road
• The Station public house
• The Pump House, Queens Road
