Colchester MP Bob Russell has called for "an urgent and immediate" inquiry into care given to wounded soldiers, after a soldier based in the town was verbally abused in a hospital.
The soldier, a member of 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, had been injured while serving in Afghanistan and brought back to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
He was being treated on a civilian ward and still in uniform when a visitor confronted him, saying: "You have been killing my Muslim brothers in Afghanistan".
An Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesman said soldiers were provided with "an extensive network" of medical services both in the UK and while serving overseas.
