An extra £550,000 is being spent to bolster the number of Essex police officers on the beat.
The number of bobbies patrolling the county's streets is skyrocketing as force chiefs carry out their pledge to boost high-visibility policing.
By 2008 there will be almost 1,400 more frontline staff than five years ago.
The increase is in response to public demand for more officers on the beat.
