Motorists were breathing a sigh of relief after temporary traffic lights that had held a rush-hour stranglehold on Colchester were removed.
The lights, set up on Monday at works on the Ipswich Road, had caused traffic chaos before they were taken away.
The lights restricted traffic to one side of the busy road, which had been dug up while drainage pipes and dropped kerbs were put in for flats being built on the former Dovercourt Ford site.
