A cancer ward has got an £8,000 donation "out of the blue" from a man whose childhood friend died of the disease.
Graham Holland presented the money to the Jefferson ward at Colchester's Essex County Hospital.
Ward sister Tina Hickey thanked Mr Holland for his "incredibly generous" donation.
"We are extremely grateful, and the money will be used to purchase vital equipment, such as pressure-relieving mattresses to help cancer patients."
Mr Holland, of Ewell Hall, Kelvedon, said he had raised £40,000 for cancer and cystic fibrosis charities because the illnesses affected two of his friends.
