Work on a major road into Colchester is causing the town to shudder to a halt during rush hour.

Temporary traffic lights in Ipswich Road, controlling traffic while sewers are installed for flats being built on the former Kendall Motors site, have caused disruption throughout the town.

This morning, rush hour queues were said to be stretching from the site back along East Street to the junction with Brook Street.

A spokesman for Network Colchester buses said the congestion had caused "horrendous problems".
