Police have praised a quick-thinking pensioner after she foiled a pair of bogus workmen with a panic button and a shopping trolley.
Two men called at the 77-year-old woman's house in Colchester yesterday afternoon. They claimed they had come to cut off her electricity and water.
The victim let the men inside but became suspicious.
A police spokesman said: "She shouted at them to get out and put her shopping trolley between herself and the burglars."
