BALLROOM dancing, knitting and French conversation filled a former school.

Villagers held an activities taster day at the former Wormingford Church of England Primary School, closed by Essex County Council last year.

More than 100 people attended the event, organised by Wormingford Committee Education Centre.

Sally Dobson, one of those behind the project, said the support received meant the building would be staying open.

She said: “It was brilliant. We had a camp fire, over which people were toasting marshmellows. It looked stunning in the snow.

“There was a nature walk held around the area, with natural artefacts, such as antlers, on display too.

“There was even creative writing, ballroom dancing and French conversation.

“So many people turned up. It’s really kick-started the future of the school.

“We now hope to hold another activities day at Easter and the idea is to hold more classes and activities at the school.

“All the people who turned up agreed something has to happen here to keep it open.”

Run Around Kids is holding activities for nine to 12-year-olds at the old school tomorrow.
