A TEENAGER threatened to stab his grandad after he refused to give him money, a court has heard.

Jamie Brown, 18, of Speedwell Road, Colchester, became threatening to step-grandfather Steven Collins during a conversation on the Facebook website.

When police turned up to arrest Brown, he said: “I told him I would cut him up and stab him. So what?”

He also bit an officer on the right hand during the arrest on Boxing Day.

Simon Newell, prosecuting, said: “Brown entered into a fairly lengthy Facebook conversation with his step-grandad and asked to borrow some money.

“These requests were ignored by the victim and Brown gradually became more insulting, with him threatening to fight the victim.

“His grandad said: ‘I don’t think so’ and Brown then threatened to stab him.

“The victim felt like he had no option but to call the police.”

Brown admitted making the threats over the social networking site and assaulting an officer when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

He also admitted possessing a knife in public on January 21, threatening behaviour on January 18 and resisting a police officer on January 19.

The court heard Brown had been seen in Speedwell Road with a 4in serrated kitchen knife on January 21.

Mr Newell said: “The victim’s mum had an argument with Brown.

“He walked up the road, returned to the house and came back out with a kitchen knife.

“Brown then walked up the footpath holding the knife to his neck.”

The court heard Brown, who suffers from learning difficulties, had taken the action because of the stress of the other charges.

The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports.

Brown was bailed and told to reside at an address in Speedwell Road with a curfew, not to contact witnesses, and not to enter Military Road and Winchester Road.
