The countdown to Christmas started in Colchester with a flurry of snow and the arrival of Father Christmas.
He and his elf pulled up in the High Street in an open-topped bus today to unveil this year’s Christmas window display at department store Williams & Griffin.
On his command children tore away the wrapping paper which covered the window pane to reveal this year’s creation – an animal circus with lots of glitter.
Hundreds of shoppers lined the streets to watch the spectacle.
Some queued for more than an hour to be in front of the window as it was unveiled.
