PLANS to build more than 50 homes at the former home of Colchester United will be debated for a second time next week.

Last month, Colchester Council’s planning committee sent a planning application to turn Layer Road football ground into a 58-home development back to the drawing board amid concerns about its scale.

Following talks with developer New Abbey Homes, slightly revised blueprints will be discussed at a planning committee meeting next Thursday, with councillors recommended to approve it.

While all 58 homes are set to remain, some of them are to have fewer bedrooms. Some large gardens have been cut down to size while more parking spaces are being offered.
