I read with interest the item headlined: “Protest over recycling centre axe” (Gazette, September 19).
I support Tendring Council’s efforts to save the site at St Osyth. I also want to remind Wivenhoe readers the closure of Martin’s Farm will have a detrimental impact on them.
Shrub End is no substitute for Martin’s Farm. Although equidistant, the tortuous journey to this overstretched facility is along Colchester’s congested and potholed roads.
It means more traffic in residential areas, fumes and more pollution.
I urge all Wivenhoe readers to join the campaign and write to or e-mail Essex County Council, as well as our MP Bernard Jenkin, to express your dissatisfaction with this short-sighted decision as soon as possible.
