VANDALS have broken a window on a brand new community centre in a suspected air gun attack.

Damage was done to the Tiptree centre, in Caxton Close, some time after it was closed at 11pm on Thursday.

A circular hole has been found through the thick, double glazing glass leading councillors to suspect an air gun or similar weapon has been used to make the damage.

Tiptree parish councillor, Mike Robinson, said: “That is really worrying if someone is hanging around near the park with an air gun.

“They could do someone a great deal of harm.”

Police were informed by caretaker staff and the CCTV system is being checked for evidence.

The damage has been caused just one week after the new community centre was opened.

It has taken almost ten years for the building to be completed and was funded by money from councils and community groups.

The incident marks the second act of vandalism to parish council property in the past two weeks.

A storage room in Grove Road, which houses council owned tractors and gardening equipment, was broken into overnight on August 30.
