TO the relief of football fans and visitors to Colchester’s stadium alike, work started yesterday on surfacing the car park.
When the Weston Homes Community Stadium was opened in 2008, it was agreed not to surface the car park because the money was not available.
But following frequent flooding and a flurry of complaints from visitors, Colchester United and Colchester Council have each agreed to loan Colchester Community Stadium, which manages the stadium, £60,000 to tarmac the area.
Following preparatory work this year, 15 lorries started delivering the tarmac on Monday, with the surfacing due to be complete by Thursday in time for the U’s pre season, which starts next month.
