BRIT-nominated singer Olly Murs proved he can still kick it when he turned out for a Braintree pub side on Sunday – even grabbing a goal in the process.

The 26-year-old former Witham Town footballer scored for the Angel, in Bradfield Street’s side, as they beat Panfield Bell Rovers 6-1 in the Braintree and North Essex Sunday League.

Angel landlady Janice Timms said: “He played really well. It’s always last-minute if he plays, as it depends what he’s doing.

“He turned up the minutes before kick-off this week.”

Olly will be entertaining crowds of a different kind this summer, when joins boy band JLS for a special Essex concert.

The Witham singer will be sharing the bill with the Brit award-winning group at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park on Saturday, July 9. Tickets went on sale on yesterday, and 20,000 people are expected to go to the concert. Both acts first found fame on TV talent show, the X Factor after failing to win. JLS finished second in 2008 and Olly was runner-up in 2009.
