A SONGWRITING duo from Clacton are bidding to have their song chosen as Britain’s Eurovision entry this year.
Colin Bennett and Colin Steele have reworked Was I Beautiful Tonight, which they wrote in 1998.
Mr Bennett, a taxi driver who has worked in Clacton for more than 25 years, and Mr Steele, 47, a chief superintendent with Essex Police, from Little Clacton, are now taking the first steps towards getting Europe-wide acclaim.
If their song is in the running to be Britain’s entry then they will find a singer to front their tune.
Mr Bennett said: “The song was originally written as a ballad, but Colin felt it would be better with an up-tempo feel and the end result was great.
“I don’t think we have had brilliant songs in Eurovision the past few years. The song is with our publisher to be pushed for the competition, and we will have to see how it goes from there.”
This year’s contest, the 56th in the competition’s history, is being held on May 14 in Germany.
