Auditors wrong about the Vaf It is shameful how the external auditors from the Audit Commission failed to turn up at the Colchester Council finance panel meeting to explain their unacceptable reports on the Visual Arts Facility.

Yet again the public condemnation of this hideous carbuncle was unchallenged at the meeting.

The auditor’s report praised the “open and transparent approach” by the council, completely ignoring the published complaints over secrecy.

According to the auditors, the public are neutral about the project, but no reference was made to the numerous protest letters.

According to the auditors, decisions over the Vaf were subject to extensive public scrutiny, but in reality the public were ignored.

The auditors think scrutiny will make the project “value for money”!

I am grateful the coalition Government is closing down the Audit Commission.

Perhaps, in future, we will have auditors who will report the reality and not the delusions of the art fanatics controlling Colchester Council.
