GRAFFITI vandals have caused hundreds of pounds of damage to six beach huts in Brightlingsea.
The black spray paint can only be removed using special graffiti removal cleaner.
Graham Steady, town and district councillor for Brightlingsea, whose family owns one of the huts, said it had left them feeling angry.
He said: “I don’t understand why they think they can just come along and do this.
“It is not something we have really suffered from along here on a regular basis, but it is still going to take quite a lot of work to clear up.”
He said of some of the graffiti: “You could not really make out what it was, it was just nondescript.” Other huts had faces depicted on them.
The damage was discovered on Wednesday, October 27, and police are appealing for witnesses.
PC Andy Aguda said: “This is an incredibly selfish thing to have done. Not only will the owners of the beach huts have suffered financially because of the damage, but it is likely they will have to give up their own time to carry out repairs which could run into hundreds of pounds.”
Witnesses can call PC Aguda or PCSO Louise Cox at Brightlingsea police station, on 0300 3334444.
