A BOY has been found responsible for stabbing his brother at their home in Colchester.

A court heard a row at the boys’ home ended with one of the brothers being stabbed six times.

He was treated in hospital for stab wounds to his chest and lower back, Chelmsford Crown Court was told.

Psychiatrists ruled the boy accused of the stabbing unfit to stand trial.

But after hearing evidence, the jury decided the boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was responsible for the injuries.

It took the nine women and three men less than an hour to reach a unanimous decision.

The case was adjourned to allow the boy to be examined by doctors before he is sentenced.

His barrister, Nigel Lithman QC, said the most likely outcome of the case would be a hospital order under the Mental Health Act.

He was bailed to an address in Warrington, Cheshire, to return to court in November.

The court was told the incident happened on May 11 last year at the boys’ home, near Colchester town centre.

A row between the brothers developed into fight, during which the boy who was stabbed used an aerosol can as a flamethrower.

A chair and knives were also thrown by the victim, before his brother punched him in the face. The fight continued and the defendant stabbed his brother, the court was told.

The defence maintains the boy had been acting in self-defence.
