A BUSINESSMAN has given something back to a Stanway charity that helped his family.

Luke Chapman, managing director of business support company the BP Group, has agreed to provide the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre with high-tech running vests for people taking part in fundraising events.

The vests and T-shirts allow the body to cool more efficiently and improve running performance.

Mr Chapman became a supporter of the charity, based in Peartree Road, after his sister was diagnosed with the illness.

He said: “My sister lost her sight for about a month after she was diagnosed with MS at the age of 25.

“Fortunately, she regained it, but it was a very harrowing time for the whole family. It had a really major impact on me.

“At the time I was smoking heavily, liked a drink and was overweight.

“My sister having MS acted as a wake-up call because it made me realise how lucky I was.

“I stopped smoking and started getting fit. I’ve lost three-and-a-half stone and this year I ran my first London Marathon for the resource centre.

“I discovered what a fantastic job the resource centre does.

“I launched the BP Group two years ago and I am now in a position where I can help the charity with sponsorship, which I am delighted to be doing.”

Herts-based businessman Mr Chapman will continue his personal support of the charity by taking part in December’s gruelling Grim challenge – a 10km run and 20km bike ride in Aldershot – and a coast-to-coast cycle ride next year.
