AFTER weeks of spinning the wheels of steel, the winner of Liquid’s King of the Decks has finally been announced.

At the area final at the Colchester High Street club, local DJ Paul Hutchinson mixed his way to glory, meaning he’ll be heading off to the regional final later this month.

Paul, 40, has lived in Colchester for the past 30 years.

He started DJing at the age of 18 at popular clubs of the time, such as Palms Wine Bar.

Paul says: “I think I was one of the first DJs to play house in the town. After that, I really got the bug and went to New Zealand for six months to DJ over there.”

He even went to Ibiza and had the prestigious honour of doing the opening set at one of the island’s legendary clubs Es Paridis.

Now working at Stansted Airport as a shop manager, Paul gave up DJing for a while after his son was born eight years ago, but more recently he’s been back on the decks, playing at such venues as Qube.

He adds: “One day I was passing Liquid and saw the poster and thought why not. Then I got through the first round and then won the final. I’m really looking forward to the regional final and then hopefully the big one.”

Still in line for a £1,000 cash prize and DJ equipment worth £3,000, Paul will be performing at Liquid, in Leicester, on September 17.

The national final will take place at a yet-to-be-announced venue in October.
