RESIDENTS had to be evacuated from their homes after a Colchester Officers Club went up in flames.
More than 40 firefighters were called to the club on St Johns Green at 11pm on Sunday night to tackle the blaze.
No-one was in the building at the time, but families living nearby were evacuated as firefighters feared the fire might spread.
The fire was finally brought under control at 3am.
Police and fire services will now investigate what is thought to be a suspicious fire.
