OYSTER workers and a town crier helped launch the countdown to the first Colchester Oyster Festival.
The Colchester Native Oyster season starts on September 1.
The town’s inaugural festival on Saturday, September 4, will feature live music, a food and drink fair, oysters and competitions.
It is hoped more than 30,000 people will attend events.
Don Quinn, of the festival trust, which is organising the event, said they are still on the lookout for local musical talent to perform in the bandstand of Lower Castle Park where the festival takes place from 11am.
Charities Help for Heroes and Headway Essex will benefit from the event.
