Job Title: Features Writer

Responsible to:
Features Editor


Specific Requirements:

* To source, produce, develop and manage editorial and online content, including
pictures, for the Echo's Leisure and entertainment sections,
including music, theatre and the arts.
* To manage and organise the writing of theatre and music reviews including liaising with other staff to cover assignments.
* To produce insightful and entertaining celebrity interviews on a regular
basis.
* To source and produce articles for inclusion in all other features sections including Echo woman, Leisure, health and business in liaison with team members responsible for those section.
* To source and produce at least one news feature/backgrounder each week with pictures.
* To contribute to specialist publications/supplements as required.
* To update and maintain sections of the Echo's website as required.

Departmental Responsibilities:

* To ensure the features editor is kept informed of developing stories,
ensuring they are filed to deadline.
* To be flexible in covering stories outside of standard working hours if
necessary.
* To work closely with the features editor and other team members in
forward planning the features sections.
* Keep a diary to ensure relevant topics are covered and follow-ups done
at appropriate times.

Key areas in addition to those outlined in the job description:

* To ensure all stories are developed and followed-up appropriately,
ensuring all angles are covered such as sourcing case studies and
reaction from a variety of people who have an interest in the story.
* To develop and maintain key contacts both for your specific section
and more generally. 
* To represent the Echo at events as appropriate.
