AMERICAN metalcore band Converge will be rocking the rafters of Colchester Arts Centre later this month.

Hailing from Salem, Massachusetts, play a blend of hardcore punk and extreme metal.

And because of their musical style, consisting of complex guitar work and off-time multi-rhythmic drumming, some have described the band as mathcore.

Now made up of Jacob Bannon, Kurt Ballou, Nate Newton and Ben Koller, Converge were formed in 1990 by Jacob and Kurt, who began by playing covers of hardcore punk and heavy metal songs.

The band started playing live the following year, but it’s only in more recent years they have started to make a name for themselves.

The turning point came after the release of their high-acclaimed fourth studio album, Jane Doe in 2001.

With new album, Axe to Fall, released last October, the band are touring the UK which includes a date at Colchester Arts Centre on July 17.

Support comes from Kylesa, Gaza and Kvelertak. Tickets are £12 and are available by calling 01206 500900 going on-line at www.colchesterartscentre.com
