A man was stabbed at least seven times in the arms, back and shoulders outside a town centre pub.
The attack happened outside the Crab and Pumpkin pub, in Jackson Road, Clacton, just before midnight on Saturday.
Police said they believe a bottle might have been used. The victim later received treatment at Colchester General Hospital to his injuries.
