THE sound of vuvuzelas will not be echoing round Colchester’s Community Stadium next season.
Colchester United chiefs have decided the club will not allow the musical horns into the Weston Homes Community Stadium when the new season kicks off next month.
The vuvuzelas have become a feature of the World Cup in South Africa, and many believed they would be heard on the terraces of English clubs after the tournament.
Towards the end of last season, club mascot Eddie the Eagle used one during opportune moments as the U’s competed in the play-offs.
But U’s fans told the club in a consultation they would be about as popular on our shores as the returning England football team, and so the club have decided to ban them.
Neighbours in nearby Boxted Road had also expressed concern about the sound of the vuvuzelas, which can reach up to 140 decibels.
