A CLAMPDOWN on underage drinkers has led police to seize more than 200 bottles and cans in less than a month.

Officers covering High Woods, St Johns and Mile End, have been touring teenagers’ hangouts and seizing alcohol from under-18s.

Police community support officer Matt Ladkin said: “Every year, when the weather heats up, we see more young people trying to buy alcohol and gathering outside to drink it. Of course, isn’t very pleasant for nearby residents.

“We’ve been visiting likely places and taking any alcohol we find, and seizing alcohol from anyone we think may be buying it for under-18s.”

Mr Ladkin added: “If any residents spot young people with drink, they should get in touch with us immediately.”
