Essex Police will be leaving footprints in homes as part of a week-long campaign to target burglaries.
The force launches its drive tomorrow to remind the county's residents to lock their windows and doors. Officers will be posting footprint-shaped leaflets through letterboxes.
The leaflet provides advice on how to protect the home and a simple message: Next time this could be a burglar'. In 2005/06, more than 6,000 people were victims of burglary.
