A taxi driver has been accused of careless driving after a crash on the A12.

The 54-year-old Colchester man is being prosecuted by police after he was in collision with a tree on the A12 while carrying four passengers.

The taxi was travelling along the southbound carriageway at 12.30am on Sunday when the driver allegedly lost control of the silver Ford Mondeo near Dedham.

It left the road and struck a tree.

The driver and passengers, who were on their way back to Colchester from a wedding, were treated at the scene by paramedics.

No-one was seriously injured.
