I am truly saddened to read in the Gazette (May 10), that Elmstead Parish Council has plans to sell off, for a very large sum of money, the corner of my road, Bowes Road, Wivenhoe.

How can it be allowed to sell for development land never intended for that use without a thought to our quality of environment?

When I retired, my husband and I moved from a suburban house, investing our savings in a beautiful bungalow in the country for peace and quiet in our old age.

I am now a widow and watch on a daily basis as this once very pleasant road turns into mayhem every morning and afternoon, with general roadside parking daily.

My neighbours and I have been living in the hope that one day the council would be allowed to buy this land and would turn it into a parking area to take dangerous parking off our street.

I cannot see properly to cross the road, it is so very dangerous for everybody, small children and residents alike.

The very last thing we need is any more housing and extra congestion as the road is already overburdened with cars and yellow lines.

I would like to object most strongly to this plan.
